Education in Rural Areas
Believing that education is the fundamental force for creating a sustainable society, Arcadyan has a longstanding focus on this issue. As a company with a strong sense of social responsibility, we invest in rural and underserved communities to close the resource gap and promote equitable, high-quality learning environments. Our efforts in children's education go beyond basic rights; we leverage our corporate expertise to provide diverse learning and cultural experiences that inspire a love of learning and broaden their future
horizons.
Rural areas have long faced structural challenges, including a lack of educational resources and a shortage of professional teachers. Through our observations of English education programs in rural and underserved elementary schools, we have identified three major widespread challenges:
- A chronic shortage of English teachers makes it difficult to offer courses consistently.
- Limited opportunities for practical application due to a lack of a daily English-speaking environment.
- A widening gap in English proficiency impacts students' overall learning confidence.
Launched in 2015 to tackle rural education challenges, Arcadyan's Remote English Learning Program partners with local schools and non-profits. The program provides supplementary materials, remote teaching support, and corporate volunteers, which not only increases teaching flexibility but also provides a steady stream of resources to help schools retain teachers. We believe the true value of education lies in ensuring every child feels supported and understood, empowering them to see hope and move forward bravely.
This long-term commitment not only directly responds to SDG 4 - Quality Education but also demonstrates our belief in achieving intergenerational wellbeing and promoting educational equity. Arcadyan will continue to deepen its local focus and connect with more social resources to enrich children's learning journeys and lay a strong foundation for a sustainable future.
Arcadyan's Remote English Learning Milestones
Remote English Learning Program
Arcadyan believes education is crucial for social inclusion and sustainable development. The pandemic accelerated digital learning, and we see remote teaching as an innovative solution to the educational resource gap in rural and underserved areas by breaking through geographical limitations.
To achieve educational equity, Arcadyan launched the Remote English Learning Program in 2022. Initiated by the Social Care Committee, the program partners with Winning English School to provide systematic English resources through their digital platform. The small-group, levelbased format is designed to enhance students' skills and motivation, and in 2024, the program expanded to 13 schools, assisting 186 students for 700 learning hours with an investment of over NT$420,000. According to teacher feedback, the program not only supplements school resources but also leads to significant student progress and high participation.
In addition to digital courses, Arcadyan sponsored a two-week immersive English study tour in 2024 for participating students at the Winning English main campus in the Philippines. Learning in an all-English and cross-cultural environment, students not only broadened their international perspective but also cultivated crucial soft skills like perseverance, self-management, responsibility, and teamwork. This experience strengthened their language abilities while enhancing their adaptability and confidence for future challenges.
The "Remote English Learning Program" is a key action by Arcadyan that leverages technology to promote educational equity. It demonstrates that we are not only a resource provider but also a practitioner of social innovation, using cross-sector collaboration to bridge educational gaps in rural areas. By achieving SDG 4 - Quality Education and SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities, we are collectively building a sustainable blueprint for intergenerational well-being.
Our "Remote English Learning Program" launched its first overseas study tour in 2024, sponsoring 12 students from eight schools for a two-week immersive English experience in the Philippines. Students participated in ecological adventures, STEAM education, and traditional handicraft making—all conducted in English to enhance language skills and cross-cultural understanding. The program significantly improved students' language abilities while developing key soft skills including empathy, self-directed learning, and teamwork, demonstrating that meaningful learning extends far beyond the classroom.
Assistance to Vulnerable Groups
Upholding the spirit of "giving back to society," Arcadyan partners with the Hsu Chao-Ying Charity Foundation to support vulnerable children. We invest resources in areas such as emergency relief, talent development, and daily
care to help them regain hope and opportunity. For instance, we support the foundation's "Dream-Soaring Project," which helped 24 talented children pursue their dreams in 2024. We also participate in the "Dream-Realizing Wish Project," providing gifts and necessities during key holidays to ensure children feel valued and cared for.
In 2024, Arcadyan expanded its public welfare participation, partnering with 27 non-profit and social welfare organizations to promote diverse support programs for disadvantaged groups, including:
- After-school tutoring and summer camps for vulnerable children
- Return-to-school and life placement for marginalized students
- Support services for people with disabilities and their families
- Festive care initiatives, such as donating Mother's Day cakes and gifts for the Mid-Autumn and Dragon Boat Festivals, and prayer offerings
- Providing daily necessities in coordination with food banks
Arcadyan's charitable donations totaled NT$2.16 million in 2024, demonstrating our commitment to corporate social responsibility. These efforts also respond to SDG 1- No Poverty and SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities as we continue to move toward an inclusive and dignified society.
