On International Coastal Cleanup Day (the third Saturday of September), 62 volunteers from Arcadyan joined The Society of Wilderness Beach Cleanup Campaign 2.3 tons of marine waste was removed from the northern beach of the North Embankment of Hsinchu Nanliao Harbor.
Collected waste was recorded with ICC guidelines, counting and tracking different types of marine trash. The accumulative data over the years have proven insightful in guiding environment policies making, making beach cleanups more than just picking up trash, but a citizen science project.
According to past data analysis, more than 90% of marine waste is plastic. Beach cleanups are just a way to raise awareness in ocean conservation, however, reducing waste at source is the way to achieve it. Arcadyan is well aware of the importance of raw materials management. ISO 14006 Ecological design was first implemented in 2017, then the framework of BS 8001 circular economy was incorporated to introduce post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in the products. Depending on product specifications and requirements, PCR plastics ratio increase yearly. In 2022, PCR plastic has been used in about 60% of customer products, accounting for about 40% of product shipment weight. In 2023, Arcadyan successfully manufactured products contain more than 95% PCR plastics to meet customer expectations and gradually achieve sustainable targets. Arcadyan furthermore collaborates with plastic suppliers to recycle discarded and non-reusable plastic casings into PCR plastic to implement the circular economy.
